I have been involved with The Village School since 2003 when my daughter began kindergarten. I have served in various capacities within the school including Library, Middle School Logic Teacher, in addition to the current duties listed above. I love making students smile and challenging them to grow. One of my nicknames at TVSG is "TaraTech" as everyone usually brings their computer or copier issues to me to resolve! Problems and challenges do not discourage me but I enjoy finding a solution that helps everyone. I teach and tutor for a local University and Community College respectively. Donna Manus, Kindergarten Teacher
I came to the Village School in 2009 after retiring from public school. I spent my entire career at Corinth School where I taught kindergarten through second grade various years. I have recently celebrated 40 years of marriage with my husband, Mike. I have two sons and six grandchildren. I feel very blessed to have had a career in teaching. I have always loved my job and I feel very fortunate to be a part of TVSG where Christian values are so important. The church sign where I attend says, "What the teacher is is more important than what she teaches." I feel that this is so important to everyone who enters this profession. Jean Harvey, First Grade Teacher
My name is Jean Harvey and I love teaching first graders. I am married to Ken Harvey. I am the mother of two sons and have four grandchildren. I am enjoying having my youngest grandchild with me at TVSG in the kindergarten class. I have been at The Village School since 2006 and I am truly blessed to have been led by the Lord to be a part of The Village School Family. I thank Him for allowing me to be in His service at TVSG! Sally Wood, Primary Assistant
I am a 1973 graduate of Winthrop College, it was not a university at this time, with a major in early childhood education. I was fortunate to teach kindergarten in Cherokee County for 28 years. Ironically, two of my co-workers were Donna Manus and Jean Harvey. I have one daughter, Meredith, who is a recent graduate of Gardner-Webb University. Suzan Moss, Second Grade Teacher
I graduated from Limestone College with a BA in elementary education in 1983 and I have been teaching ever since. Of course, my mother will tell you that I started teaching much earlier, around the age of three, when I held class for my dolls and stuffed animals. I love the primary grades and I am also certified in early childhood education. I have been at TVSG since 2004 as the second grade teacher. TVSG is without a doubt the best school in which I have ever taught. I especially love teaching in a Christian school because the students are always respectful and eager to learn. Caroline Burr, Third Grade Teacher
My name is Caroline Burr. I have been teaching the third grade at The Village School of Gaffney since 2010. I am a 2010 graduate of North Greenville University where I received a BA in Elementary Education. I am also happily married to my husband, Wesley Burr, who serves as associate pastor and youth minister at a local church. My goal as an educator is to be an effective practitioner, a caring leader, and a lifelong learner. Each day I strive to show my students that I care about them by giving them the best education possible and preparing them to be effective and productive citizens in their world. I am constantly learning from them, which is a wonderful and rewarding experience. Most of all, I desire to show my students the love of Christ. Wendy Wilson, Fourth Grade Teacher
My name is Wendy Wilson. My wonderful husband's name is Chris and together we have two great children named Christian and Abigail. I started teaching in 1995, took a break to take care of my children, and then started at The Village School of Gaffney in 2008. God created each of us and I see each person as a representation of His image. I believe in educating the whole child and giving the child an opportunity to learn in his/her own way. In the fourth grade we focus our studies around great literature. As we read, we learn about Science, History, Spelling, Writing, and Citizenship. We use hands-on learning in all subjects including Math. We learn from outside activities as well as inside activities and experiences. Cheryl Hogue, Fifth Grade Teacher
My first year teaching at The Village School of Gaffney was 2011. I have taught in public school, tutored, and taught home-bound students. I am a published author and I have enjoyed speaking in schools, churches, and various organizations. I am married to David Hogue and together we have three children and six grandchildren. Linda Snider, Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher
I am Linda Snider and I teach the middle school students Language Arts and History classes. I also teach enrichment classes to the 7th and 8th grade in which we are studying an artist each term along with other adventures. I have been teaching at TVSG since 2005 in many capacities. I have taught children from Kindergarten to 8th grade in four states. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Integrated Language Arts, Math and Science, and Elementary Education. My further studies in a Masters degree were in Educational Leadership at Western Michigan. I am married to a wonderful soul-mate and have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren. I respect your children as people and teach in a method using Charlotte Mason as my guide led by the Holy Spirit. Kara Hames, Middle School Science and Social Studies Teacher
I teach middle school Science and Social Studies. I have been at the Village School since 2010. I have lived in Gaffney all my life, and I love being a part of this town. I went to college at USC-Upstate where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and then I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching from Converse College. Dr. Ruth Parker, Middle School Math Teacher
I started at The Village School of Gaffney in August of 2011. I graduated from Limestone College with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and chemistry, from Converse College with a Master of Arts in Teaching, and from the University of South Carolina with a Doctor of Education in Curriculim and Instruction. After forty-five years in the public schools of South and North Carolina, I am blessed to be able to continue my career as an educator teaching middle school mathematics in this wonderful setting. Dr. Hugh Fincher, World Languages Teacher
I am a native of Gaffney and returned home to look after my parents. I hold an AB and MA in Latin and Greek from the University of North Carolina and a PhD in Humanities with a concentration in Latin and Greek from Florida StateUniversity. I have always enjoyed language study and am certified in French, German, and Spanish as well as Latin and Greek. I have taught for more than 40 years and am retired from Cherokee County Schools. Lavetta Sherrill, Art Teacher
I was born, raised, and educated in North Carolina. I have received advanced degrees from Hampton University, USC-Upstate, and UNC-Charlotte. My teaching experience is in Social Studies and Special Education in addition to the arts. I developed a life-long interest in the arts and am a strong supporter of agencies and organizations that promote the arts. My most memorable experience was gazing upon DaVinci’s “Mona Lisa” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when it was on loan from the Louvre. Wanda Smith, Physical Education Teacher
I began teaching at The Village School in 2009 and I am still loving it!! We have a great time in our Physical Education classes as we work on many different skills and activities. I have been teaching the Bible class to middle school students at the Village School of Gaffney since 2008. Mary Rudnick, Chapel Leader, Music and Drama Teacher
I've had the privilege of guiding children in "making a joyful noise unto the Lord" in both churches and schools since the late '80's. I've studied voice, theater and dance at Point Park College and the Pittsburgh Playhouse School of Theater Arts. My goal is to help each child discover the joy of worshiping the Lord through music, drama and dance. I have been blessed to do that here at the Village School since 2004.
