                                Message from the Director

Welcome to The Village School of Gaffney, where our mission is to provide a Christian environment with teachers who inspire students to become self-governing, life-long learners.  We strive to keep students engaged, challenged, and excited.  We are a small learning community focusing on individual needs and preparing students for the future.  The Village School, founded in 2001, is a private, non-denominational Christian school serving students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Village School philosophy and curriculum is based primarily on the work of Charlotte Mason.  Mason established village schools in England in the early 1900s and viewed education as an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.  The atmosphere of The Village School is one that centers on what is best for the student and also recognizes each child as an individual created in God’s image.  We focus on instilling good habits in the classroom and for life, but also stress the formation of Christian character.  We believe that learning is worth pursuing for its own sake and we seek to nurture each child as we celebrate the acquisition of new abilities.

The curriculum at The Village School is rich and broad.  Students learn about great musicians and artists, along with the traditional academic subjects of math, science, language arts, history, and geography.  Literature is the cornerstone of The Village School with a progression that begins with phonetic instruction and ends with Shakespearean study.  Students are also given opportunities to study world languages beginning in Kindergarten.  Depending on grade level, students receive instruction in music, art, drama, Latin, physical education, logic, and computer.

We are proud of our students and their achievements and are privileged to be a part of their educational journey.  We would like to partner with you in your child’s education.  Please contact us if we can answer any questions or if you would like to come for a visit. We look forward to showing you our village!
